Things Of Habit 1
Habit Vs Addiction, Fight!
Who would win in the battle of behaviours? Let's pit some contenders against each other:
Coffee or Tea?
Doughnuts or MoiMoi?
Fried chicken or Cooked Fish?
Chivita Active or Pepper Soup?
Cold water or Orange?
Now I'm hungry😒! But more importantly, which of these are habits, and which might be addictions?
Anywoo, we know addictions aren't always about the usual suspects like drugs, alcohol, politics, or sex. They can sneak into our lives through seemingly innocent things like football, social media, or even our daily bottle of Fanta.
Apparently, the difference between habit and addiction is control and causal effect. See this:
Habits are like that comfy old t-shirt you wear without thinking. They're behaviours we can generally control, learned through repetition and often beneficial (or at least not harmful).
Addictions, on the other hand, are like that milo you can't stop licking until the whole pack is gone. They involve compulsively giving in to desires or urges, often despite knowing better. The key here is loss of control.
Take cold water vs. orange. Enjoying an orange before lunch? Probably habit. But if you're constantly thinking about cold water, feeling irritable without it, or drinking excessive amounts despite health concerns? That's veering into addiction territory.
The tricky part is that addiction often disguises itself as a habit. We might say, "Oh, I have a habit of scrolling through social media before bed." But if you're losing sleep, neglecting responsibilities, and still can't put the phone down?💀 That's not just a habit anymore, darling.
Remember, not all bad habits are addictions, but all addictions are bad habits on Fearless. The crucial difference is in who's calling the shots.
So next time you reach for Coke, go on TikTok, or stream a Korean series, ask yourself: Is this "Is it me doing, or something is doing me?🤔" Be impartial about the answer.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go make tea. For purely habitual reasons, of course! 😋

Hehehe...
I thoroughly enjoyed this.
The factor of control being the major difference between the two is something I never really thought of deeply.
Can a good uncontrollable habit become an addiction? Say for instance, I always go to sleep by 7pm because I was brought up that way. I look forward to your response eii.
Off to lick some milk or maybe not 🤔😅
I love the flow. Well done, keep it up
